CAPE JAFFA The Cape Jaffa range showcases Mount Benson's qualities as a premium wine growing region, with fruit source predominantly from our biodynamic vineyards at Cape Jaffa. The 2005 vintage was warmer than average growing season and as such produced robust wines with excellent intensity at all levels. This Amarone-style merlot was an experimental parcel, open-fermented with 10% of the fruit being handpicked and rack-dried. The wine was then aged for nearly three years in French barriques. The wine was then fined using egg whites followed by minimal filtration prior to bottling. Complex dark berry notes with subtle hints of dried fruit comprise the nose of this limited release. A structured and elegant wine with powerful acidity, this wine exhibits firm drying tannins on the finish. Alcohol/Volume
14.0% Peak drinking Serving suggestion "Here's a South Australian merlot that'll sit right up there with Romney, Protero, and Jardim do Bomfim in the outright subliminal stakes… Moody and stewy, never mellow, with three years of good French oak contributing perfectly apt spice… 92++ points" |
