Jaffa snags third SA tourism medal in as many years
Cape Jaffa Wines picks up a bronze medal at the 2010 South Australian Tourism Awards in the category of tourism wineries, distilleries & boutique breweries
MOUNT BENSON – 23 November 2010: Mount Benson’s founding winery and first fully certified biodynamic winegrower on the Limestone Coast Cape Jaffa Wines (www.capejaffawines.com.au) received a bronze medal for its tourism efforts at the 2010 South Australian Tourism Awards last Thursday night, 18 November 2010.
Cape Jaffa’s cellar door was recognised within the extremely competitive category of tourism wineries, distilleries & boutique breweries. It’s the forth tourism accolade the winery has achieved in three years, three at state level.
“This year’s SA Tourism Awards medal put us in the top eleven cellar door experiences in the state, which is a huge achievement given the South Australia Tourism Commission’s current ad campaign pushing the 200 cellar door experiences on Adelaide’s doorstep,” says Leah Sourris, brand manager of Cape Jaffa Wines. “To be recognised as part of the very best in the state is very encouraging for both the team at Cape Jaffa and the Limestone Coast wine region as a whole.”
The accolade was the result of a 30-page submission completed by the winery detailing their contribution to tourism through an in-depth analysis of their key markets, business plan, financial viability, sustainable practices and innovative approaches. “The awards process is a worthwhile one and gives us not only the opportunity to acknowledge what we’ve achieved throughout the year, but also highlights areas in which we can improve our practices to achieve better outcomes,” says Leah.
Jaffa’s success in these awards follows last week’s win at the 2010 Advantage SA Regional Awards for the winery’s contribution to sustainable practices on the Limestone Coast. This is the second time the winery has won the award, and should the awards run next year gives the winery a chance at making the Advantage SA Regional Awards’ Hall of Fame.
“We’re very proud to offer an experience to tourists at our cellar door which is not only iconic to the state but sustainable in its offering,” says Derek Hooper, director and founder of Cape Jaffa Wines. “What we really hope is that our leadership in this field will encourage others to employ more environmentally sensitive practices and sustainable initiatives in the running of their own businesses.”
