Cape Jaffa Wines: La Lune Shiraz 2008

LA LUNE
Shiraz 2008
MOUNT BENSON

The La Lune range showcases wines which express true regionality and varietal distinctiveness with each vintage.

2008 sees Cape Jaffa achieve its first fully certified fruit, and this shiraz becomes our first fully certified biodynamic red wine to leave the vineyard under the La Lune label. A challenging vintage due to extreme temperatures in early March meant fruit ripened quickly, but with little rain leading up to vintage berries arrived in excellent condition.  This premium red was fermented in open top concrete tanks with minimal winemaking intervention and hand plunged three times daily, before extended maceration on skins for two weeks.  It was matured in new French oak barriques for two years.  Production was increased with this vintage to 280 dozen bottles.

Subtle dark berry and plum characters combine with spice and white pepper to form the nose of this old-world style shiraz.  A savoury palate with hints of licorice make for a spicy yet supple mouthfeel, finishing with well-structured tannins and a dry lingering finish.
