Derek Hooper, general manager/winemaker
General manager and winemaker Derek Hooper studied at Roseworthy back in the early nineties when Australia’s massive wine boom was in its early days. Before establishing Cape Jaffa Wines, Derek gained extensive experience in renowned wineries from around the world, including Domain de Chevelier in Bordeaux, Chapoutier in the Rhone Valley and Leconfield in Coonawarra, South Australia. Derek’s role at Cape Jaffa has progressed from simple beginnings of digging young vine rootlings into the soil, chipping rocks for the cellar door building and racking barrels, to overseeing a busy and challenging operation. Cape Jaffa’s growth over the last 15 years has meant that Derek’s time is now split between the winery and vineyard, supporting and expanding our overseas markets and various other projects. |
