Mesmer Eyes Red & White Blend
Style: Aromatic and eccentric - between a rose and a red.
The inspiration: Inspired by our own wine, Riptide, this wine is quite like no other. Aptly named after the white and red native flower ‘Mesmer Eyes’, it is the result of a strange epiphany during vintage.
It’s in essence, a highly aromatic white wine (Gewürztraminer) fermented for the first few days on its grape skins, pressed off its skins and then decorated with a handful of red berries late in the ferment. This created a transformation from a white wine that tasted red to a more visually appealing pinky red wine that tastes like nothing else. This wine has been made for the more adventurous wine consumer looking for a light bodied, versatile red wine with a floral aromatic quality that was once only achievable in white wine.
Cellaring: This wine is drinking well now while its aromatic qualities are so apparent, however we expect that with its tannin structure and texture that it will age for at least five years.
Food pairing: Generous flavours are the go for this eccentric blend. Think highly spiced and aromatic herbs including cinnamon, clove, Sichuan pepper, shallots, soy and coriander – a good one to crack with your next Chinese take away meal of drunken noodles, Mongolian lamb or peking roast duck with shallot pancakes and hoisin. Also try it slightly chilled or with a super stinky cheese to end a meal.
