Rather than waste those hours, Derek uses them to muse; About wine, running a wine business and always what’s next, for Cape Jaffa Wines. Of course it’s not always grand revelations – the smell of rain on the Terra Rossa soil, how quickly vintage seems to arrive or just how lucky he is, to grow wine in such a unique coastal climate, nearby Robe on the Limestone Coast in the beautiful South Australia. These long stretches of bitumen often become his backdrop for generating ideas; in between dodging roos, that is.
